Computer Aided Tutorial In Constitutive Relationships

Using the tutorial programs for strain analysis from Mechanics Of Materials (MOM) on your own Mac or the Mac in Rm. 706 do the following:

1. a) For the first part of the tutorial I want you to access Strain and go through the examples Hookes Law, Strain Gage Prob., Stress-Strain Curves, Strain Energy I, Failure Theories and Strain Energy II.

b) Also run through Dr. Baldwin.

2. Make sure you understand Pure Shear, Simple Shear, Uniaxial strain, elastic modulii (Young's modulus, shear modulus, Bulk Modulus, and Poisson's ratio).

3. Pay particular attention to Dr. Baldwin examples. The "concrete" example is the closest in composition and elastic properties to a rock.

Note that most of the examples are for tensile failure, but you can imagine the similarities for compressive tests.

HERE'S SOME ADDITIONAL NOTES ON GETTING THIS ASSIGNMENT DONE:
Go to the Mac in WBB706. It's on your right when you walk in the door. Log on to the guest account. Open the folder in the middle called "STACKS" Open the folder "3. Constitutive" go through everything in that folder. all the stacks, and the Dr. Baldwin program. NOTE: when finished with the Dr. Baldwin program, go to "File" and pick Quit. The six stacks in that folder should have an icon next to them that has a little R on it. If that icon isn't there it means the file somehow became disassociated with the program that reads them. If this happens, send me an email so I can come and fix the problem.

For the assignment, print out the last page of each stack as you access them and turn them in on the due date.
